Love's Guidance

TRANSCRIBER’S NOTE: The Course text is in bold face. The Guidance is in normal type In His Guidance, He has asked Me to capitalize the pronouns You and We as an acknowledgement of the Divinity of All of Us, an acknowledgement of Equality, an expression of His Love and respect for You. When You see the word ‘YOU’ capitalized in the Guidance, know that He is not just speaking to YOU, He is honoring YOU.

L e s s o n  121

Forgiveness is the key to happiness.

Being here for giving Love, and not demanding It just naturally leads My heart to learn forgiveness.

1 Here is the answer to your search for peace. The unforgiving heart is absent peace. Here is the key to meaning in a world which seems to make no sense. Here is the way to safety in apparent dangers which appear to threaten you at every turn and bring uncertainty to all your hopes of ever finding quietness and peace. Gift Love to Every One that You see.  In thought wish them “God bless You My dear Brother.”Here are all questions answered; here the end of all uncertainty ensured at last.  Love leads You to the solid ground of Life as God Eternal.  It can’t be described, just experienced.  Peace and Love go as One with Happiness.

2 The unforgiving mind is full of fear – terribly tormented by grievances, it has finds no relief – and offers love no room to be itself, no place where it can spread its wings in peace and soar above the turmoil of the world. The bubbling cauldron of selfishness that runs the ego mind wrapped up in itself.  The unforgiving mind is sad, without the hope of respite and release from pain. It suffers and abides in misery, peering about in darkness, seeing not, yet certain of the danger lurking there.  Not realizing that the danger lurks at home within itself, and not without.

3 The unforgiving mind is torn with doubt, confused about itself and all it sees, afraid and angry, weak and blustering, afraid to go ahead, afraid to stay, afraid to waken or to go to sleep, afraid of every sound, yet more afraid of stillness; terrified of darkness, yet more terrified at the approach of light.  It sees false evidence appearing real everywhere it looks, not realizing that it lsees within instead of without!.

4 What can the unforgiving mind perceive but its damnation? For it damns itself with its own thinking! What can it behold except the proof that all its sins are real? The unforgiving mind sees no mistakes, but only sins. It looks upon the world with sightless eyes and shrieks as it beholds its own projections rising to attack its miserable parody of life. It wants to live, yet wishes it were dead. It wants forgiveness, yet it sees no hope. It wants escape, yet can conceive of none because it sees the sinful everywhere.  And this is the mindset of the ego that You cherish so.

5 The unforgiving mind is in despair, – stuck with painedl images of things that never really happened – without the prospect of a future which can offer anything but more despair. Yet it regards its judgment of the world as irreversible and does not see it has condemned itself to this despair.  Believing things that aren’t really there, though they seem to be really convincing. It thinks it cannot change, for what it sees bears witness that its judgment is correct. It does not ask because it thinks it knows. It does not question, certain it is right.  Such the nature of the ego mindset.

6 Forgiveness is acquired. Before the separation the concept was unknown to anyone, for All Reality is Love. It is not inherent in the mind, which cannot sin. As sin was an idea you taught yourself, – You just made it up! – forgiveness must be learned by you as well, but from a Teacher other than yourself, who represents the other Self in you. Yes, indeed!  I mean the Holy Spirit.  Through Him you learn how to forgive the self you think you made and let it disappear. Thus you return your mind as one to Him Who is your Self and Who can never sin.  Your Real Self is so exquisite, lovely.

What a foolish trade You made.  Thank God that You can undo it!

7 Each unforgiving mind presents you with an opportunity to teach your own how to forgive itself. You want to know how to do it?  Love is the Liberator! Each one awaits release from hell through you and turns to you imploringly for Heaven here and now. Don’t disappoint Him!  It has no hope, – the mind that is firmly unforgiving – but you become its hope. And as its hope, do you become your own. The unforgiving mind must learn through your forgiveness that it has been saved from hell. And as you teach salvation, – by Your expression of Life, Truth and Love – you will learn.

8 Yet all your teaching and your learning will be not of you, but of the Teacher Who was given you to show the way to you.  Truly Your best Friend: the Holy Spirit! Today we practice learning to forgive. If you are willing, you can learn today to take the key to happiness and use it on your own behalf.  Yes, it is a lovely image.  Let’s use it to unlock determined righteousness, and turn it into holy forgiveness.  We will devote ten minutes in the morning and at night another ten, to learning how to give forgiveness and receive forgiveness too.  For just as We give, so are We gifted.

9 The unforgiving mind does not believe that giving and receiving are the same  I will say once again that to give something, You must have something first, in order to be able to give. Yet we will try to learn today that they are one through practicing forgiving toward one whom you think of as an enemy and one whom you consider as a friend. And as you learn to see them both as one, we will extend the lesson to ourselves and see that their escape included ours.  Willingness to forgive brings Your mind into line and shows that all of Us are One.

10 Begin the longer practice periods by thinking of someone you do not like, who seems to irritate you or to cause regret in you if you should meet him; one you actively despise or merely try to overlook. It does not matter what the form your anger takes. You probably have chosen him already. He will do.  I know You love that line because the first time it was so true!  Ego mindset is quite predictable!

11 Now close your eyes and see him in your mind and look at him a while. Try to perceive some light in him somewhere-a little gleam which you had never noticed. Try to find some little spark of brightness shining through the ugly picture which you hold of him. Look at this picture until you see a light somewhere within it, and then try to let this light extend until it covers him and makes the picture beautiful and good.  The ego so resists this exercise, yet are You willing.

12 Look at this changed perception for a while, and turn your mind to one you call a friend. Try to transfer the light you learned to see around your former “enemy” to him. Perceive him now as more than friend to you, for in that light his holiness shows you your savior, saved and saving, healed and whole. Then let him offer you the light you see in him and let your “enemy” and friend unite in blessing you with what you gave. Now are you one with them and they with you. Now have you been forgiven by yourself.  What does all this mean?  When You can see Your Brother as holy – whether friend or enemy – then it must be that the whole species is holy, this is including You.  For the gifts You give Your Brother are given back to You by the Holy Spirit.

13 Do not forget throughout the day the role forgiveness plays in bringing happiness to every unforgiving mind, with yours among them. Hold no grievances, it matters not how justified they may seem to You to be. Every hour tell yourself:

14 Forgiveness is the key to happiness.
I will awaken from the dream that I
Am mortal, fallible, and full of sin,
And know I am the perfect Son of God.
For the gift I give My Brother is given back to Me by the Holy Spirit.

[Thank you Dear Brother]

1 For morning and evening review:

[109] I rest in God.

2 I rest in God today and let Him work
In me and through me, while I rest in Him
In quiet and in perfect certainty.
In other words, I choose to not be the author of My day.  For I’ll let Divinity direct Me.  And I’ll make no decisions on My own.  What “My own” means is without God’s Guidance!

[110] I am as God created me.  How good it feels to accept that holy possibility!

3 I am God’s Son. Today I lay aside
All sick illusions of myself
– the delusions of being an ego – and let
My Father tell me Who I really am.
This is My belovèd Son, in whom I am well-pleased.1 The sweetest words ever heard.

4 On the hour:

5 I rest in God.
What does this mean but basking in the gentle, peaceful Love of God eternally, doing His bidding, whatever We may be doing, and wherever We may be.

6 On the half hour:

7 I am as God created me.  To be His Son – His Presence – forever.

Review III

1 Our third review begins today. – And before You read any further, I would like to comment about the Lessons, as well as the purpose of the reviews.

From time far on beyond Your comprehension, have You been dreaming idle dreams that serve only the purpose of keeping You addicted to the dream.  And in this they have been quite successful.

We so long for Your joyous homecoming.  Yet Dreamers seem not too, being content with the state of dreaming, having totally forgotten the wondrous Joys of Home.

Thus the creation of these Lessons to remind You; and that is, literally, to re-mind You; restore Your mind to You.  They’re quite important.

Since each One of You in the dream marches to Your own drummer, the Lessons have the potential to have All who do them be on the same page, so to speak.  The power of that is astronomical, for it becomes – for You: the shared thoughts  – a memory of how it is at Home.  How comforting and safe that is.

The reviews take the new thoughts and make them much more familiar.

The time You give to them sharing them with Me, makes them so much more precious.  So dear to both of Us, as We Join together.

We will review two of the last 20 ideas each day until we have reviewed them all. We will observe a special format for these practice periods which you are urged to follow as closely as you can. We understand, of course, that it may be impossible for you to undertake what is suggested here as optimal each day and every hour of the day.

2 Learning will not be hampered when you miss a practice period because it is impossible at the appointed time. Nor is it necessary that you make excessive efforts to be sure that you catch up in terms of numbers. Rituals are not our aim and would defeat our learning goal.

3 But learning will be hampered when you skip a practice period because you are unwilling to devote the time to it which you are asked to give. Do not deceive yourself in this. Unwillingness can be most carefully concealed behind a cloak of situations you cannot control. Learn to distinguish situations which are poorly suited to your practicing from those which you establish to uphold a camouflage for your unwillingness.

4 Those practice periods which you have lost because you did not want to do them for whatever reason should be done as soon as you have changed your mind about your goal. You are unwilling to cooperate in practicing salvation only if it interferes with goals you hold more dear. When you withdraw the value given them, allow your practice periods to be replacements for your litanies to them. They gave you nothing. But your practice periods offer you everything. Accept their offering and be at peace.

5 The format you should use for these reviews is this: devote five minutes twice a day or longer if you would prefer to contemplating the ideas assigned. Read over the ideas and comments which are written first in each day’s exercises. Then begin to think about them quietly, letting your mind relate them to your needs, your seeming problems, and all your concerns.

6 Place the ideas within your mind, and let it use them as it chooses. Give it faith that it will use them wisely, being helped in its decisions by the One Who gave the thoughts to you. What can you trust but what is in your mind? Have faith, in these reviews, the means the Holy Spirit uses will not fail. The wisdom of your mind will come to your assistance. Give it direction at the start, then lean back in quiet faith, and let it use the ideas you have given it as they were given you.

7 You have been given them in perfect trust, in perfect confidence that you would use them well, in perfect faith that you would understand their messages and use them for yourself. Offer them to your mind in that same trust and confidence and faith. It will not fail. It is the Holy Spirit’s chosen means for your salvation. And with His trust merits yours as well.

8 We emphasize the benefits to you if you devote the first five minutes of the day to your review and also give the last five minutes of your waking day to it. If this cannot be done, at least try to divide them so you undertake one in the morning, and the other in the hour just before you go to sleep.

9 The exercises to be done throughout the day are equally important and perhaps of even greater value. You have been inclined to do the exercises and then go on to other things, without applying what you learned to them. As a result, your learning has had little reinforcement, and you have not given it the opportunity to prove its worth to you.

10 Here is another chance to use it well. In these reviews we stress the need to let your learning not lie idly by between your longer practice periods. Attempt to give your daily two ideas a brief but serious review each hour. Use one on the hour and the other one a half an hour later. You need not give more than just a moment to each one.

11 Repeat it, and allow your mind to rest a little time in silence and in peace. Then turn to other things, but try to keep the thought with you and let it serve to help you keep your peace throughout the day. If you are shaken, think of it again. These practice periods are planned to help you form the habit of applying what you learn each day to everything you do.

12 Do not repeat it and then lay it down. Its usefulness is limitless to you. And it is meant to serve you in all ways, all times and places, and whenever you need help of any kind. Try, then, to take it with you in the business of the day and make it holy, worthy of God’s Son, acceptable to God and to your Self.

13 Each day’s review assignment will conclude with a restatement of the thought to use each hour and the one to be applied on each half hour as well. Forget them not. This second chance with each of these ideas will bring such large advances that we come from these reviews with learning gains so great that we begin again on solid ground.

14 Do not forget how little you have learned. Do not forget how much you can learn now. Do not forget your Father’s need of you as you review these thoughts He gave to you.

What a grateful thing to be in harmony with the Father.  Grateful for You, and for the Father too.

1 For morning and evening review:

[107] Truth will correct all errors in my mind.  I only need invite It to enter.  Truth shines away the errors as does the rising sun the night.

2 I am mistaken when I think I can
Be hurt in any way. I am God’s Son,
Whose Self rests safely in the Mind of God.
It is the other one I made up that can be hurt, wounded, even seeming dead.  All inventions of the ego that are quite unknown to God.
[108] To give and to receive are one in truth.  This is like the chicken and the egg: which came first?   To give is the desire to bless so One must already know that S/He is blessed.  So must they then be simultaneous.

3 I will forgive all things today, that I
May learn how to accept the truth in me,
And come to recognize my sinlessness.
When We truly forgive, it is not of Our largess, but rather a willingness to understand Our own innocence, as well as that of Our belovèd Brothers.

4 On the hour:

5 Truth will correct all errors in my mind.  As I willingly let My mind come in line with Love, then I cannot help but Love All of My Brothers.

6 On the half hour:

7 To give and to receive are one in truth.  In order to give Love, I must have already received It.  For God does give It freely, and Brother always says: Freely Ye have received It, just as freely give.

L e s s o n  118

1 For morning and evening review:

[105] God’s peace and joy are mine.

After all, I am the Son of God, and as the saying goes: “Like Father, like Son.”  For the Expression of a Holy Source just must be Holy.  And this statement must also then be True for All My Brothers.

As Paul from the Bible says: There is no male nor female, (nor any other sense of separation).  All are One as Christ.

2 Today I will accept God’s peace and joy
In glad exchange for all the substitutes
Which I have made for happiness and peace.

What am I saying here for You but that this peace and happiness so possible for You, is also the Gift of God to every single Brother, no matter what His or Her presentation seems to be.

You must correct Your view of things when it but seems otherwise.  Believe and hold to nothing but the Good.  And Good will be the only thing You see.

[106] Let me be still and listen to the truth.

These words are Your refuge from all harm and hatred, misery, and all things neither bright nor beautiful.

The Love of God is ever-present, despite the picture offered by the ego.  Ignore its voice and turn Your Self to God.

3 Let mine own feeble voice be still, and let
Me hear the mighty Voice of truth itself
Assure me that I am God’s perfect Son.

And not just for Me, but All My Others.  For what is True for One Son must then be True for Every One.

4 On the hour:

5 God’s peace and joy are mine.

Let Me allow this experience of Myself and each One of All My Brothers.

6 On the half hour:

7 Let me be still and listen to the truth.

For these Gifts of peace and happiness must be for Every One.  Let Me not forget to Gift My Brothers.  For the Truth has to be Universal.

Each Holy Instant holds a perfect opportunity to both receive and give these Gifts to Others.  For what is what seems to be an Other but another aspect of Your Being.

I but tell You to Love Your Brother as Yourself because He is part of Yourself!  And vice versa!

1 For morning and evening review:

[103] God, being Love, is also happiness.

Although it may not seem this way in the dream, Love is always happiness, joy pressed down and running over, more than enough for the entire endless Universe!

This is not the self-absorbed, partial ‘love’ of the ego though; a thing to be given or withheld, just depending on the whim of the giver.

Not so the Love of God of which He is Be-ing Us.  For Love is not some thing to be bestowed on certain Ones, and to be withheld from Others.

It is both the Substance and the Nature of All Creation.  And It is synonym to Spirit when referred to Substance.  And it is synonym to Life, when referred to Existence.  Synonym to Soul when referred to each One’s Identity.  So do All God’s Great Rays work Together.

2 Let me remember love is happiness
And nothing else brings joy. And so I choose
To entertain no substitutes for love.

What does block Your natural flow as Love’s Living Presence but that ancient ‘devil’: unforgiveness.  i.e. a lack of giving, an insistence on revenge, on getting even for ‘wrongs’ both ‘real’ and imagined.

Dreaming is so full with opportunities, where One may revel in grievances.  Thus You find Your freedom in Your desire to Awaken.

Why fix a dream but to keep on dreaming?  You see, the remedy is quite simple.  To end a nightmare, choose to Awaken.

[104] I seek but what belongs to me in truth.

And that is but freedom from this endless nightmare of dreaming to recognize that You are the blessed, Holy Son of God.

3 Love is my heritage and with it joy.

Love and Joy are but Your very Substance; You know: not the 3 b’s (brain, blood, bones).  Truth is: You are Spirit.

These are the gifts my Father gave to me.

These are the Gifts My Father gives as Me to Be freely to All My Brothers.  “Freely You have received, just as freely give.”  Your Love is endless.

I would accept all that is mine in truth.

It is What I am!

4 On the hour:
5 God, being Love, is also happiness.
6 On the half hour:
7 I seek but what belongs to me in truth.

[101] God’s Will for me is perfect happiness.  It has been asked: “Would You be right or would You be happy.” – as if they were antithetical.  They’re not.  For to be truly “right’ One must be in harmony with the Loving Will of God, belovèd Father, belovèd Mother.

2 God’s Will is perfect happiness for me.  What Love He has for All His Creation.  And We must Love each Other with a similar devotion!
And I can suffer but from the belief
There is another will apart from His.
Or any lack of devotion from Me or from My Others.

[102] I share God’s Will for happiness for me.  Although it often doesn’t look like it.  To not share it would be insanity: to think I have a mind apart from God.  Yet must I think so; to ever be unhappy or afraid, I must not trust God.  So I’ll change My mind immediately, now that I’ve seen this.

3 I share my Father’s Will for me, His Son.  I have had enough of My agenda!  It’s not ever worked!  Let Me trust instead.
What He has given me is all I want.
Because He loves Me, His Gifts are the best.
What He has given me is all there is.
An Infinite Eternity of Joy

4 On the hour:

5 God’s Will for me is perfect happiness.  I do accept it, very gratefully!

6 On the half hour:

7 I share God’s Will for happiness for me.  Let Me never again impose My own foolish agenda!  God wants Me happy!  That is wonderful!  God is really Love!

1 For morning and evening review:

And if You might wish to do so, contemplation all day through.
[99] Salvation is my only function here.  Life, Truth, Love expressed uniquely as I.

2 My function here is to forgive the world
For all the errors I have made.
What does this mean but to realize that the world You think You see is not by any means its Reality! And then to will to see it differently. To see it fresh and new instead. For thus
Am I released from them with all the world.
For all these awful things I think I see simply is dreaming.
[100] My part is essential to God’s plan for salvation.  I must change My mind to save the world from My misperception.
3 I am essential to the plan of God
For the salvation of the world. For He
Gave me His plan that I might save the world.
Someone must see it differently to free it from illusions.  Would We keep holding it in bondage and continue to enslave Ourselves as well?
What is the purpose but to perpetuate the dream, which should have ended before it ever began.
4 On the hour:

5 Salvation is my only function here.  Life, Truth, and Love exemplified as Me.  For there is no other purpose to being in the dream other than to heal it.

6 On the half hour:

7 My part is essential to God’s plan for salvation.  Love is needed for the world.  I could be the One to give It.
