God’s peace and joy are mine.
Therefore, these mental qualities must be Our right, and right now, immediately! Of course I do happily allow them.
1God’s peace and joy are yours. Today we will accept them, knowing they belong to us.
They are as intrinsic as the colour of Our eyes, Our capacity to Love.
And we will try to understand these gifts increase as we receive them.
Exponentially for just that little willingness which I’ve asked You to give Me. And from that giving, peace and joy appear (as if from nowhere, showing Love to be as always: now, here).
They are not like to the gifts the world can give, in which the giver loses as he gives the gift; the taker is the richer by his loss. These are not gifts, but bargains made with guilt.
I’ll love You – if You love Me – as long as I’d like “love” to be, not even one more unholy instant. So-called ‘love’ like this is but “born to die” like the Son of God who thinks He’s mortal. Experience does parallel beliefs, which come from choices.
Freedom comes from this great understanding that the Son of God can always choose again. How can this be when ‘time’ seems to be Your reality? Well, when You choose again for miracles, they then do become Your Reality.2The truly given gift entails no loss. It is impossible that one can gain because another loses. This implies a limit and an insufficiency.
For Love has no boundaries, no limits.
No gift is given thus. Such “gifts” are but a bid for a more valuable return—a loan with interest to be paid in full; a temporary lending, meant to be a pledge of debt to be repaid with more than was received by him who took the gift.
3This strange distortion of what giving means pervades all levels of the world you see.
There is Love, and there is bargaining. Which one do You prefer? For bargaining is not that rewarding.
It strips all meaning from the gifts you give and leaves you nothing in the ones you take. A major learning goal this course has set is to reverse your view of giving, so you can receive. For giving has become a source of fear, and so you would avoid the only means by which you can receive.
To give still seems to imply some loss to You; and, yet, it is really only gain. For Dreamers look but through the eyes of selfish misperception.
4Accept God’s peace and joy, and you will learn a different way of looking at a gift. God’s gifts will never lessen when they are given away. They but increase thereby.
You can clearly see the Love is so apparent here. For You are listening intently to transcribe My words when You could, instead, be sleeping.
As Heaven’s peace and joy intensify when you accept them as God’s gift to you, so does the joy of your Creator grow when you accept His joy and peace as yours.
Every One and every Thing is blessed by Your glad acceptance. I speak to every single One of You. And just a few of You choose to listen. And yet – as the Bible does record – that few can change every One’s experience. Capacity to change You and to heal Your mind is what makes the Bible Holy.
And if You would have the Course be holy too, let it heal You.
5True giving is creation. It extends the limitless to the unlimited, eternity to timelessness, and love unto itself.
“Freely You have received, so freely give.1” So were My disciples told by Me. This is the holy Gift of God, which is but His Reality. It goes both ways: freely You have given, freely You receive.
It adds to all that is complete already, not in simple terms of adding more, for that implies that it was less before. It adds by letting what cannot contain itself fulfill its aim of giving everything it has away, securing it forever for itself.
How does this experience become Reality for You? Right when You do it! When You give it Life.
6Today accept God’s peace and joy as yours.
Even though God does not abide in dreams, still can His Oneness with You heal every nightmare of the dream and replace the pleasant dreams with eternal Reality.
Let Him complete Himself as He defines completion.
Since He is Your great All in all and everything to You, truly You can trust Him.
You will understand that what completes Him must complete His Son as well.
You’re His Belovèd with whom He is pleased.
He cannot give through loss. No more can you.
He is always giving Good to You. So will to accept It.
Receive His gift of joy and peace today, and He will thank you for your gift to Him.
For all He asks is that You receive His Gifts; Your reception is but Gift to Him.
7Today our practice periods will start a little differently. Begin today by thinking of those brothers who have been denied by you the peace and joy that are their right under the equal laws of God.
It may seem like I am playing hardball with You here, yet You do want to waken. And grudges only keep You fast asleep. There is no real, lasting peace and joy in dreaming endless dreams.
Here you denied them to yourself. And here you must return to claim them as your own. Think of your “enemies” a little while,
– yes, that one will surely do exceptionally well for You –
and tell each one as he occurs to you:
8My brother, peace and joy I offer you,
That I may have God’s peace and joy as mine.Imagine Yourself embracing them, especially this One.
9Thus you prepare yourself to recognize God’s gifts to you and let your mind be free of all that would prevent success today.
You have not fully understood the high cost of grievances, yet You can see the scarcity of peace and joy that comes straight through to You from God. He is always gifting You, yet these gifts You’ve not accepted.
Now are you ready to accept the gift of peace and joy which God has given you.
Now You do release all those grievances. They bring naught but pain. Now You do forgive.
Now are you ready to experience the joy and peace you have denied yourself. Now you can say, “God’s peace and joy are mine,” for you have given what you would receive.
As You lift the heavy burdens You have laid on Your Brothers.
10You must succeed today if you prepare your mind as we suggest, for you have let all bars to peace and joy be lifted up, and what is yours can come to you at last.
You have learned to give as You would receive.
So tell yourself “God’s peace and joy are mine,” and close your eyes a while, and let His Voice assure you that the words you speak are true.
True they are, indeed. And Your spilling cup of God’s peace and joy is running over. You have good to share!
11Spend your five minutes thus with Him each time you can today, but do not think that less is worthless when you cannot give Him more. At least remember hourly to say the words which call on Him to give you what He wills to give and wills you to receive.
As You gladly let in His Love today, it becomes a day so much happier than any other!
12Determine not to interfere today with what He wills. And if a brother seems to tempt you to deny God’s gift to him, see it as but another chance to let yourself receive the gifts of God as yours.
This sweet chance You have to give an Other Love blesses You as well as blessing He.
Then bless your brother thankfully, and say:
13My brother, peace and joy I offer you,
– For I know You certainly deserve it –
That I may have God’s peace and joy as mine.
It’s just lovely to rejoice together!
